Bilateral Percutaneous Radiofrequency Cervical Cordotomy

Abstract

|
Percutaneous high cervical cordotomy was introduced by Mullan et al. 13) in 1963 and modified by Rosomoff ,et al.20) in 1965. In 1966, Lin et al.10) introduced an anterior approach to the lower cervical cord to avoid of respiratory complications, associated with high cervical percutaneous cordotomy.
Now, percutaneous cervical cordotomy became to a simple to perform, it is¡þ well tolerated by the patients and it may be offered, to those in all state of health including patients who otherwise could not or should not be subjected to ¡þa major operative procedure.
Over the last 3 years, author¡¯s performed 30 percutaneous radiofrequency cervical. cordotomies (lateral or anterior approaches) on 13 patient, who suffered from intractable pain. There¢¥ was satisfactory relief of pain in 12 on 13 patients. The incidence of temporary,postoperative paresis and bladder difficulty was 6 and 7 in 13 patients, respectively. There was no fatal case however 2 cases of postoperative dyspnea developed but it was relieved conservative care in 3 days.¡þ
